Monday, January 8th -- cloudy and cold this a.m.; temperature at Texarkana was 16 degrees and it started snowing during morning recess. By noon everything was icy and slick so the children were dismissed. We didn't have school Tuesday, January 9th. I helped Margaret call all of the Burke Street faculty. No school Wednesday, but we did have school Thursday. However, I had 10 pupils absent. School was dismissed Friday at 1:50 p.m. as it was the end of the first semester.

Tuesday, January 6th -- No school today! It sleeted and snowed last night and everything is frozen.
Tuesday, January 13th -- We had a PTA meeting after school. The program consisted of a discussion about a bond issue and plans for a new elementary school building. There are many more children of school age in the Ashdown School district; the increase started with the building of the Millwood Dam and later with the Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Mill. The population is continually growing.
Tuesday, May 5, 1970 -- "C.D. Franks Day" in Ashdown -- a special edition of a newspaper was printed yesterday and delivered this morning. Mr. Joe Barrentine is replacing Mr. Franks July 1st. All the pupils in the Ashdown School District -- also teachers -- paraded downtown and back to school. The 1st graders rode in busses toward the end of the parade. After the banquet at the high school cafetorium, everyone went to the auditorium for the "This is Your Life" program. Everything went off well.
